One of the liveliest and best loved of the French ski resorts, Val d'Isere offers reliable snow, wide open spaces, infinitely varied terrain - and great nightlife. From a small farming village, Val d'Isere has evolved into an exciting, modern ski resort without losing any of its charm and atmosphere. Both on and off the slopes Val d'Isere really does provide something for everyone.

Starting on the nursery slopes in the middle of the resort, beginners progress to easy runs in breathtaking scenery above the tree line. Stronger performers have the vast Espace Killy with its modern lift system to explore, from the infamous bumps run on Solaise to the wide open pistes of the glacier at Fornet. Off-piste enthusiasts are spoiled for choice, and with one of Val d'Isere's many off-piste specialist ski and snowboard schools you can combine guiding and instruction at an affordable price.

Back in the village there is a brand new Sports Centre with two swimming pools (one with slides and water fountains), a climbing wall, a gym, spa room with sauna, Turkish bath and two squash courts. Your Val d'Isere lift pass gives you one free entry to the sports centre and it really is well worth a visit if only for a Turkish bath to soothe those aching muscles.. There is also a new outdoor ice rink and a cinema. Once a week the centre of the village is pedestrianised and comes alive with evening entertainment, ice sculptors, music and fireworks. Nightlife here starts early and finishes late with live music at the popular Moris Pub, and dancing till late at Dick's Tea Bar.

Chalethotel Cygnaski is in a great location just minutes from the centre of Val d'Isere. Access to the slopes is easy, with a short bus ride to the La Daille lifts in one direction and the Le Fornet lifts and nursery slopes in the other. The chalethotel is extremely welcoming, with a lovely large lounge area wrapping round a huge log fire with stone chimney - just the place to relax after a day's skiing. The bar, which is separate from the lounge is small and cosy and very popular for an après ski beer or aperitif before dinner. The dining room is large and bright and is laid out to be social.

The comfortable bedrooms are spacious with lovely large windows and en-suite bathrooms. Breakfast, afternoon tea and a 3 course dinner with a choice of wines are all served in the dining room. Dinner is either a plentiful buffet or an a la carte menu with a choice of starters, mains and desserts, including vegetarian options.

Ski Hosting
 The Mark Warner ski hosts know the resort inside out and will help find the best conditions and shortest lift queues. Hosting is available on 5 days during the week and is not suitable for beginners. The ski hosting facility is on a first come basis and is always very popular with Spice members so it may not be possible to accommodate everyone on everyday.

Spice UK Skiing Ability Scale
To help members with their selection of resort, with the assistance of one of our long standing members we have created the following Ski Ability Scale.
Level 1~3 – Val d'Isere is not recommended as a suitable resort for those new to skiing.
1) First time skier, totally new to the sport (Beginner)
2) Second week skier OR has had lessons at snow dome and/or dry ski slopes (Beginner Plus)
3) Skied a few weeks and happy on green and blue runs (Lower Intermediate)
Level 4~10 – Val d'Isere has plenty of variety for every skier from intermediate upwards.
4) Skiing parallel on blues and starting to tackle reds (Intermediate)
5) Okay on reds and starting to tackle blacks (Upper Intermediate)
6) Can get down blacks, but struggles on bumps (Lower Advanced)
7) Happy on most groomed blacks and easy bumps, but finds steep bumps and off piste tricky (Advanced)
8) Can ski all bar steepest bumps and ski off piste with style except with deep powder and in poor snow conditions (Upper Advanced)
9) No problems: can ski everywhere in all manner of snow conditions (Expert)
10) Professional skier, instructor, freerider etc
Snowboarders - Val d'Isere is a great resort for snowboarders with challenging off-piste powder to leisurely cruising runs plus there are 2 snowboard parks and a half pipe.
